Where’s The Corona?
Outside of most major resorts in Mexico, if you ask for a Corona, you’ll get a “you’re not from here” look. Very few people drink Corona in Mexico, since it’s a brand focused on the American and International markets.
If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican beer drinking experience consider swilling down a couple bottles of the following brands:
Dos XX is a pale lager with notes of malt, spice and citrus. It leaves the slightest sweet taste in your mouth. This beer is served on draft at bars and restaurants in the Palladium. You’ll find your room mini-bar stocked with bottled Dos XX and Superior.

Negra Modela is a full bodied lager. When poured it shows a dark amber color with red high lights. More flavorful than other beers, Negra Modela has notes of caramel and a subtle nuttiness. Plus, unlike other dark beers it isn’t as filling. There’s definitely more flavor in this beer than a Corona or Dos Equis.
Tecate is the Pabst Blue Ribbon of Mexico, it’s great on price and has a decent bite. It’s a lot like the older American beers of the 1970’s when they actually had a bit of taste.
These three beer brands will keep your taste buds amused while south of the border.
